ServSafe® Training

ServSafe is a food safety training program created by the National Restaurant Association (NRA). The training is taught by a Health Educator from the Fishers Health Department who is certified to lead the training and proctor the exam.

Training & Exam Information

1-Day Manager Training & Exam (8 hours total)

Training Format: 6 hour in-person class
Exam Format: 2 hour in-person exam using ServSafe’s online testing site
Class Size: Up to 20 students. First-come, first-served
This course is ideal for:
-Restaurant managers and assistant managers
-Chefs and dieticians
-Culinary arts and Family & Consumer Science teachers
-School food service managers
-Other food service professionals

What You’ll Learn in the Training:
-Food safety basics
-Microbiology
-The Flow of Food
-Receiving & storage
-Pest management
-Staff Training
-Active Managerial Control

What to Expect for the Exam: Please bring a laptop for the exam. The online exam consists of 90 multiple choice questions. You have a maximum of two hours to complete the exam. After passing the exam, you’ll get a certificate from the National Restaurant Association and be registered in their database. The certificate is valid for 5 years.

Exam Only (2 hours total)

Exam Format: 2-hour in-person exam using ServSafe’s online testing site
Class Size: Up to 20 students. First-come, first served.
This course is ideal for: Individuals who have taken the training course and need to retake the exam
What to Expect for the Exam: Please bring your own laptop for the exam. The online exam consists of 90 multiple choice questions. You have a maximum of two hours to complete the exam. After passing the exam, you’ll get a certificate from the National Restaurant Association and be registered in their database. The certificate is valid for 5 years.
