Temporary Food Events

Fairs, festivals, farmers’ markets, and each location utilized for food handling and preparation activities are required to be separately permitted per business establishment and inspected within the City of Fishers.

Temporary Vendors & Organized Events

  • Temporary vendors operating at organized events or festivals may obtain single-event permits for 1-14 consecutive days of operation.
  • An Annual Temporary permit may be obtained annually, allowing a temporary food vendor to participate in different events/festivals/celebrations throughout the calendar year.
  • Event organizers are requested at no charge to make an application and supply vendor information before hosting an organized event with food so that the health department can ensure food safety at the event.

Food Event Organizers

  • Market Masters
  • Celebrations, Fairs & Festival Organizers

The City of Fishers Health Department has implemented an Event Organizer Registration Application (Viewpoint) for organizers of events serving food in Fishers. There is no charge for the registration. The event organizer should submit a site map of the event area detailing vendor locations, toilets, hand-washing facilities, drinking water access for food vendors, and trash receptacles for vendors and patrons. Once you submit your registration application, you will receive a registration confirmation within five business days. This registration allows City of Fishers staff to ensure that food vendors know local health codes before the event.

Organizers of food events have an inherent responsibility to the public to provide a safe and healthy event. The Health Department also has similar responsibilities and needs information to provide the proper resources to support a safe and healthy event in your community.

Temporary Food Events – Fairs, Festivals, Farmers Markets

Any food establishment in any enclosure, stall or other facility, whether fixed or mobile, operating at one site or location for a period of time not in excess of 14 consecutive days, in conjunction with a single event or celebration, where food in open form intended for human consumption on or off the premises is offered with or without charge

If food product preparation, handling, or packaging occurs in another county, proof of permit from that county must be provided before a temporary permit is issued. Retail food preparation may not happen in a private residence. Temporary vendors utilizing leased commercial kitchen space to prepare food before a food event must obtain a separate Food Service operating permit for that food preparation location.

The food service application is available in the Food Permit Application section. All temporary food vendors must have a certified food handler, unless exempted by food type per IC 16-42-5.2.
