Typhoid Vaccine

If you’re planning to visit a region where typhoid is common, getting vaccinated can help reduce your risk of infection. Typhoid fever spreads through contaminated food or water and can lead to serious illness once the bacteria enter the bloodstream. Yellow Fever
Cost: $244
Traveling to Africa or South America? Yellow fever is a serious virus spread by infected mosquitoes in both forested and urban areas. It doesn’t spread person-to-person, but vaccination and mosquito bite prevention are key to staying protected. Learn more about Yellow Fever.

Schedule Travel Vaccines
Pre-Travel Planning (2-3 months prior to departure)
- Get up to date on all routine/recommended vaccines (these are typically covered by insurance, except if given for travel) Schedule your routine immunizations appointment online.
- Gather all immunization records. Fishers Health Department can only access vaccines given in Indiana. Most vaccine records through the state are incomplete for adults.
- Prepare a list of current medical conditions and medications.
- Read about your destination on the CDC Website to understand risks and budget for possibly needing vaccines. Write down any questions for the nurse.
- Book consult appointment 4-6 weeks prior to travel. Schedule an appointment. Select Immunizations-Travel as the visit reason.
Travel Appointment (4-6 weeks prior to departure)
Schedule your 60-minute travel consultation with the Fishers Health Department 4-6 weeks before your trip to ensure you receive all recommended or required vaccinations in time.
Your travel consultation ($60) covers:
- Review of current medications and previous medical history
- Destination-specific health risks
- Required and recommended immunizations
- Insect protection strategies
- Food and water precautions
- Anti-malarial prescriptions (if needed, sent directly to your pharmacy)
Please note: The Fishers Health Department does not accept insurance for travel consultations. Payment is due at the time of service.
Appointment Guidelines
- If you are scheduling for more than 2 people, please call the clinic at 317-537-0500 to make the appointment so they can be scheduled at the same time.
- Call the clinic if you are having difficulty finding an appointment time online. We will make every attempt to schedule an appointment that meets your needs.
- Please schedule an appointment no less than 48 hours in advance to give the Fishers Health Department clinic time to prepare destination-specific information.
- Consent is needed from a parent/guardian if patient is less than 18.
- Bring a list of current medications and any previous vaccination records.
- Health department staff may recommend anti-malarial medication and will be sent to your pharmacy of choice for the traveler to purchase. Travelers diarrhea medication will not be prescribed.
- Bring your state ID or passport.

Fees & Payment
- Travel immunizations and consult fee must be paid out of pocket at the time of service. You may use an HSA to cover the cost, and you may have the option to submit a reimbursement claim to your insurance provider if desired.
- The Travel Consult fee is $60

- Yellow Fever – $244
- Typhoid – $158
- Prices based on 110% of the purchase cost
- $20 per vaccine will be charged as an administrative fee
- Additional travel vaccines may be offered, call to inquire availability
